EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

April 2025.

Libraries are vital hubs for education, social development, fostering lifelong learning and access to information. This was exemplified by Umsobomvu Library in Noupoort, which recently hosted its annual Library Week under the theme Libraries for Sustainable Communities. Supported by Noupoort Wind Farm, the event underscored the essential role that libraries play in empowering communities.

Umsobomvu Library Week has served as a cornerstone of educational development in Noupoort for 20 years, providing learners and community members with valuable learning opportunities. This year’s event brought together schools, community members, and key stakeholders, including municipal managers and district officials, to engage in a variety of activities designed to foster a love for reading, history, and knowledge-sharing.

“We believe that access to education and information is key to empowering communities. By supporting Umsobomvu Library Week, we are investing in the future of children and fostering a culture of learning that will have long-term benefits for the entire community,” said Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Noupoort Wind Farm.

Throughout the week, learners from Grade 4 to Grade 6 participated in structured learning sessions, storytelling, and interactive discussions. Each day focused on a different historical and educational theme, including: The Real History of Easter-Time; Human Rights; Workers’ Day; and Freedom Day.

Learners also enjoyed DVD screenings, illustrated storytelling sessions, sing-alongs, and group discussions, all aimed at reinforcing the educational themes while making learning enjoyable and interactive.
