Noupoort Wind Farm was proud to support Eliza Steenkamp from Eurekaville Intermediary School when she was selected to join the Northern Cape under 12 Diamonds team at a Netball Tournament.
Eliza Steenkamp from Eurekaville Intermediary School was selected to join the Northern Cape under 12 Diamonds team at a Netball tournament in Boksburg, these June school holidays. The team won all their games, except for three, putting them in the regional’s top twenty. Not only is Eliza excited about their results, but she had a great time meeting new people.
“Well done to Eliza and the Diamonds team, we are so pleased that she had a fantastic experience and got to fulfil her sporting dream,” said Noupoort Economic Development Manager, Sandisiwe Mntonintshi.
Noupoort Wind Farm support included Eliza’s transport, accommodation and netball uniform. “I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and overall experience. Not only did our team play well, but we got to make new friends and strengthen our team spirit,” said Elize Steenkamp.
When asked why the wind farm is funding sports initiatives, Mntonintshi explained, “Sport is the soul of this community, it is cohesive and has a far reaching positive bearing that not only benefits participants, but their families and schools too”.
When looking at social studies, in South Africa and across the globe, participation in sports has shown to have improved educational attainment and attendance, as well as increase fitness and general well-being – all things that are important in a community such as Noupoort.
